Amazing Nongkhai: My Experience at a Thai Restaurant in Seoul

I used to enjoy visiting this Thai restaurant because its food seemed to cater more to Thai tastes than to Korean palates. The restaurant was formerly known as Amazing Thailand. After moving to a larger location nearby, it changed its name to Amazing Nongkhai.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to visit again since moving to another region of Korea, but I still remember my experiences there.

Amazing Nongkhai

I believe my first visit to Amazing Thailand was sometime in 2015 or 2016.

Hongdae is an area of Seoul where trends change quickly, yet this restaurant has continued operating for more than a decade. Its longevity is one of the things that makes it stand out.

Three things particularly surprised me during my first visit.

First, the staff were Thai, and communicating with them was not always easy. I remember having difficulty asking about parking because of the language barrier.

Second, I noticed that many of the customers were Thai.

Third, the menu was extensive, featuring many Thai dishes that were unfamiliar to me at the time.

What impressed me most, however, was the food itself.

The flavors felt quite different from the Korean-style adaptations of Thai food I had encountered elsewhere. Eating there gave me the impression of experiencing Thai cuisine in a much more authentic style.

I suspect this was one of the reasons many Thai customers chose to dine there, although this is simply my personal impression from those visits.

Since the restaurant relocated and changed its name to Amazing Nongkhai, I have not had the opportunity to visit its new premises.

However, based on recent reviews I have found through Naver, the restaurant still appears to maintain its distinctive Thai-style cuisine.

If you are looking for Thai food in Seoul, Amazing Nongkhai is worth considering. I would particularly recommend looking into it if you want to explore Thai flavors that go beyond the Korean-adapted versions commonly found in Korea.

Please note that my photos and personal experiences date back to 2018. The restaurant’s current menu, interior, and other details may have changed since then.
