2027 brings some changes to the Korean calendar. Two “new” public holidays join the list: Labor Day (May 1) and Constitution Day (July 17). Many holidays also fall on weekends, so there are 7 substitute holidays, which means plenty of 3-day weekends throughout the year.

🆕 What’s New in 2027?

Labor Day (May 1) became a public holiday for everyone in 2026. Before that, it was a day off only for private-sector workers. Public offices and schools now close as well.

Constitution Day (July 17) returned as a public holiday in 2026, 18 years after it was removed in 2008.

In 2027 both days fall on a Saturday, so the following Monday becomes a substitute holiday.

✈️ Travel Tips for 2027

Among Korea’s public holidays, Seollal (Lunar New Year) and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) are the most significant traditional events. Many local restaurants and traditional markets close on the actual day of these holidays. It is also best to avoid traveling between Seoul and other regions during these periods because of heavy traffic.

With so many 3-day weekends in 2027, popular spots like Jeju, Busan, and Gangneung can get crowded on Saturdays through Mondays. If your schedule is flexible, plan your domestic trips and KTX tickets around these dates.

Please keep these tips in mind when planning your trip to Korea in 2027!
