Daepae Samgyeopsal refers to thinly sliced frozen Samgyeopsal.
It’s called Daepae Samgyeopsal because the thin slices resemble the wood shavings produced by a carpenter’s hand plane — called a “daepae” in Korean.
Because it’s frozen, Daepae Samgyeopsal doesn’t taste quite as good as fresh, unfrozen Samgyeopsal.
However, it has the advantage of being quick to grill and more affordable.
It also offers a different texture and shape than regular Samgyeopsal.
A popular way to enjoy it is to grill kimchi, bean sprouts, and other vegetables in the fat that renders off while cooking.
Then you can wrap everything up together and eat it.

Daepae Samgyeopsal has the advantage of being easy to distribute because it is frozen meat.
We can purchase imported Daepae Samgyeopsal from the U.S., Spain, and Canada at marts and supermarkets in Korea.

Daepae Samgyeopsal should be grilled while it’s still partly frozen.
Once the slices thaw completely, they tend to stick together, making it difficult to separate and grill them one by one.

Once it’s fully cooked, it looks a lot like bacon.
Daepae Samgyeopsal
If you like Samgyeopsal, I’d definitely recommend trying Daepae Samgyeopsal too.
It’s not something you’ll easily find outside Korea, so it’s worth trying while you’re here.
I hope you enjoy it with Ssamjang and vegetables.
