Jajangmyeon – Korea’s representative Chinese food

Jajangmyeon is the food that Koreans order the most with Chicken.
It can be eaten quickly, is cheap, and can be called a national food.

Jajangmyeon is a combination of Jajang and Noodle.
Jajang is a sauce made by frying Chunjang with pork and onions.
It is black which is difficult to find in food but it is not spicy, it is sweet and has a complex taste.

Both Chunjang and Jajangmyeon started from Chinese food but now they are Korean Chinese food that can only be seen in Korea.

There are many foods that use jajang sauce such as Jajang ramen, Jajang rice, and Jajang tteokbokki because Koreans love jajang.

Regular Jajangmyeon

It looks like the image above regular Jajangmyeon.

Jjajang sauce is covered on the noodle and peas or cucumbers are added depending on the restaurant and fried eggs are always included depending on the region.
Some places put boiled quail eggs.
Usually some pork and onions are chewed.

Jjajang sauce for regular Jjajangmyeon is usually made in advance so if you order it, it is served quite quickly.
You just to need mixing it, so you can eat it in a fairly short time.

A few years ago, it was about 2,500 won for a bowl of jajangmyeon but these days, it costs about 5,000 won to 6,000 won due to price hikes.

Unlike Jajangmyeon, Ganjajang is served separately with noodles and jajang sauce as shown in the image above.
And I don’t know why but it’s called Ganjajang not Ganjajangmyeon.

The biggest feature of Ganjajang is that when you order the chef starts making jajang.
It tastes better than regular jajangmyeon because it is made right away.
And the amount of onions in the pork is a little higher.

Ganjajang is about 1,000 won to 2,000 won more expensive than jajangmyeon.

Samseon Jajang

Samseon jajang means that three ingredients are added to jajangmyeon.
Shrimp, squid and sea cucumber are usually added.

The original meaning of Samseon is pheasant in the sky, sea cucumber or abalone in the sea, and tree ear mushrooms or pine mushrooms in the ground.
These ingredients are not easy to obtain, so shrimp, squid, and sea cucumber are being replaced these days.

Samseon Jajang also starts cooking as soon as you order.
It is the most expensive jajangmyeon among jajangmyeon.

Jajangmyeon is

Jajangmyeon is the cheapest food in Korean Chinese restaurants.
The taste of jajangmyeon is an indicator of the cooking skills of Chinese restaurants.

Nowadays, it is not easy to find Chinese restaurants with delicious jajangmyeon.
So if jajangmyeon is delicious on the first visit, order Ganjajang or Samseongjajang on the next visit.

Jajangmyeon is too suitable for foreigners to eat.
It is recommended to order Tangsuyuk and jajangmyeon when you visit a Chinese restaurant in Korea.
If it is difficult to visit a Chinese restaurant during a trip to Korea, you can order it to your accommodation.
I recommend you to inquire about the information of the accommodation.
